Next time I'll probably do that, but this time I would have liked the worker to show me around and given me the chance to get the ingredients myself.okay, rant over. Now, this isn't a complaint about the service, but I sort of miss perusing my LHBS and compiling the ingredients myself. The one "complaint" I have about AHS is that if you go in with a recipe, a worker usually will take care of you, measuring out and assimilating all your ingredients. The selection and quality are top-notch, and our DFH India Brown Ale clone is happily bubbling away as I type. The store is a mecca for homebrew supplies, with everything from kettles, all-grain setups, TONS of hop, yeast, and malt varieties (plus huge drums of LME that are poured & packaged fresh), homebrew t-shirts, books, magazines, and more. Swung by AHS after finally getting settled into my apartment & catching the brewing itch. Another place that I won't hesitate to order from again, though I do wish they would list the maltsters. They also have the same flat-rate shipping that Northern Brewer has which helps.

The costs here are pretty much in between Midwest (low-end) and Northern Brewer (high-end). The only time there was a problem with my order they contacted me the day I ordered it and said they didn't have a certain hop available anymore and I was able to switch it to something else. I've never had any problems with an order and everything has always been exactly what I ordered. It doesn't make that big of a difference but it's good information to have. It will just say 2-Row Malt instead of Briess or Rahr 2-Row, etc. The only thing I don't like about their site that the others do, is that they don't list the maltster on their grain page. Their selection is huge, just as big as the other two places I order from, Northern Brewer and Midwest Supplies. I have ordered from this place several times online, but have never been to the actual shop. This is the HB shop I use and will continue to use for their selection, in store recipes, and resonable shipping rates if I am out of the 512. Soon after I started to read the books of Michael Jackson and bought Complete Joy. I was 18 and never thought about brewing your own beer as an option. In collage, I worked across the street from their former local on N. They are actually the reason I got into homebrew. Not speaking for all of them, but it can't get much better than Austin Homebrew.
HOMEBREW SUPPLY PLUS
Plus it was not dark and seedy like a lot of older HB shops can be. The moment I walked in, I saw that this is a place for Homebrewers and just anyone who likes a great hobby shop. And, there is just nothing that I can say wrong about this place. Now I have only been to a few HB shops, but this one, now located on Metric Blvd, is by far the best one! The new store is giant, the staff is knowledgeable, the website, if you can't get to Austin, is well laid out and easy to navigate.
